Ricochet

At the southern end of the Grove midway, park visitors will find what Kings Dominion’s website calls “one of the most underrated rides in the park” – a steel roller coaster called Ricochet. The bright yellow track with blue and gray supports is nestled in between the Grove’s two wooden coasters: Rebel Yell and Hurler. Ricochet has been thrilling families since it opened on March 23, 2002. The parks 2002 additions, which also included Triple Spin, drew focus to rides that families enjoy experiencing together. A great beginner coaster for kids, the ride’s height restriction is a child-friendly 44 inches.

Manufactured by MACK Rides, Ricochet is a standard “Wild Mouse” style ride with a bonus element: a surprisingly thrilling 50-foot plummet! At the bottom of the large first drop, riders hit a top speed of 35 mph. Immediately after, park guests speed up a hill and enter the legendary hairpin switchbacks that slide riders to the outside edge of their seat, giving them the terrifying feeling that they are about to fall off the track! Following the tight turns is a pair of steep drops before hitting the brakes of the 1,312 foot long track. As you are exiting the ride, you can stop at the photo booth to purchase a photo of your memories on Ricochet!
