Ghoster Coaster

The coaster that started it all for Kings Dominion!

Ghoster Coaster is a wooden family coaster located at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Va. Designed by John Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The ride was designed and built in 1974 and was built originally to coincide with the now defunct Lion Country Safari park and operated a whole season before the actual park opened in 1975. The coaster originally opened with a white color scheme and currently boasts a dark blue color scheme. The Ghoster Coaster is currently the oldest ride in the park to date and was originally themed to Scooby Doo to fit the theme of the surrounding kid’s area which had various Hannah Barbera themed rides.  There are 3 other “sister” coasters with similar layouts located at Carowinds, Kings Island, and Canada’s Wonderland.  The coaster features a 38 foot lift hill and drops 35 feet. It reaches a top speed of 35 mph with duration of 1 minute and 50 seconds and a length of 1,385 feet. It also boasts two five car trains seating 2 across with a total of 20 riders per train and can accommodate approximately 1200 riders per hour.

The attraction has many followers and has brought lasting memories to long-time park goers and will continue to make memories for years to come.
