Americana

The 2009 season at Kings Dominion saw the addition of two new flat rides, one of which was the Americana Ferris Wheel.

Americana first opened in 1999 at Geauga Lake Amusement Park in Ohio. It was part of the second year in a row that Kings Dominion received rides from the now Defunct Geauga Lake. In 2007 it closed, and was later disassembled in 2008. During Kings Dominions 2008 season, parts of the Ferris wheel began to arrive. In January 2009 the park began preparing the land for the ride, which is in the former location of the Launch Pad trampoline attraction. April 2009 saw the opening of the fully rebuilt Ferris Wheel at its new home.

Americana is the first Ferris wheel to operate at Kings Dominion, since it opened in 1975. At 110 feet tall, it gives a spectacular view of the Grove midway; a view that guests of the park have not been able to experience since the Sky Ride was removed in the mid 90s. Americana features 24 five person gondolas, which can provide fun for an entire family at a time. It also features a spectacular multicolored changing light display on both sides of the wheel, which makes it almost as fun to watch at night as it is to ride.

Americana adds a very classic feel to the Grove midway at Kings Dominion. The “All American Classic” is sure to be a favorite for all Kings Dominion guests, young and old.
